I used to long for death
like a morning glory pines for the sun.
It was the only subject of my prayers,
the only time I spoke to our Father.
Jesus, you know why.
Believe in reincarnation, and the current life
eventually loses meaning.
Live in the shadows long enough,
sully up life bad enough and you’re ready
for a fresh start.
How blessed am I that God always said ‘No!’
Then You caught me, like a lion its prey
and everything changed.
No, I changed.
No, YOU changed me.
Now each breath is precious through grace,
each minute a blessing,
each hour a calling,
each day like You: to glorify our Father
and bring salvation to the lost sheep.
I used to be born to die.
Now I die a thousand times a day
in Your living heartbeat.
