5-18-14 Temper (a Sonnet)

Someone quick-tempered is predictable:

Just wind him up, stand back, and let him go.

A look or word, something equivocal

Can set an angry man into a throe.

If you are slave to fury plead in prayer

That Jesus turn your anger inside out.

Let Christ the perfect Teacher show you where

Sweet patience can be found and used throughout.

To understand the root of all your rage,

You must dig deep until you find the source,

And when laid bare let Jesus take the stage

To heal your troubled soul within due course.

Grab anger before anger grabs you first

And practice patience ’til you are well versed.

A patient person shows great understanding,

but a quick-tempered one promotes foolishness.

Proverbs 14:29
