5-22-14 Dirge #03: The Proud

arrogance (2)

“Look on these works, you mighty, despair!” said pride before crumbling to dust.

Destruction is certain for arrogance thick, that swells up and threatens to bust.

Beware, you with pride, who stretch out your stride!

Destruction is sure and death marks the cure,

you don’t know that Satan’s your guide!

“I am the one who deserves the applause!” said the woman who stood straight and tall.

It’s clear that her thoughts are far from God and someday she will have a great fall.

Beware, haughty one, who beams like the sun!

Your love of the world will soon come unfurled,

watch your mansions on Earth come undone!

Self-righteous folks are easy to spot, for they point to the things that they do.

They don’t even think to give God the praise; ah, but if they only knew.

Without God they’d never exist to be clever,

but this sensual place makes them blind to God’s Grace

which sustains their smallest endeavor.

There is only one thing to be proud about, only one thing to which you can boast

and that’s in the Lord for Everything, for He is the King of all hosts.

Until you are humble, you’re bound to just stumble.

Until God gets the credit, you never will get it.

2For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money,

proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents,

ungrateful, unholy,

heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control,

brutal, not loving good,

treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit,

lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,

having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power.

Avoid such people.

2 Timothy 3:2-5
