6-30-14 Clanging Cymbals (a Sonnet)

clanging cymbals

Of all the languages there is not one

That speaks in perfect tone with noun and verb

To represent the essence of love won,

Or of a broken heart tossed to the curb.

Take all the words that men and angels know

And put them in the order of your choice;

Without the beat of love, without its flow,

You’d say pure gibberish in any voice.

The mind with all its skill cannot express

The language of the simple spoken heart;

When ev’ry knee shall bow and tongue confess

None understanding love will e’er depart.

Start learning now to speak the soul of love;

The perfect Teacher is the Lord above.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
If I speak human or angelic languages but do not have love,
I am a sounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
1 Corinthians 13:1 HCS
