And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.

Matthew 9:9 KJV

~~~~~~~~~~~
If you were at your your job and hard at work,
And suddenly a stranger came to you,
And said ‘Come follow me,’ would you then shirk
The things that someone’s paying you to do?
Would you demand an explanation now,
For no one really does this kind of thing?
If you knew it was Jesus you’d know how
To quit your job and follow Christ the King.
But Matthew did not have that knowledge yet.
He did just what the Master told him to.
Don’t be so dead you take it as a threat.
Let Spirit guide your heart; He’s always true.
Be ever watchful; you’ll see Christ today.
Where there is love, He’s never far away.
  1. Dorothy Sittler says:
    Matthew 16:24 (KJV) Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
    Luke 9:23 (KJV) And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
    and then we get our marching orders ….. Matthew 28:18 (KJV) And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
