8-20-15 Made for Man

Mark 2:23-28

23 And it came to pass, that he went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn.

24 And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful?

25 And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him?

26 How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him?

27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

Mark 2:23-28 KJV

~~~~~~~~~~~
Christ said the Sabbath day was made for man,
Twas made for good and not to bring him bad:
His soul may benefit in worship span;
His body rest from labor and be glad.
His necessary acts should not be banned:
A sheep can sure be rescued from a ditch, 1
And David’s hunger could not be pre-planned.2
The Sabbath’s made for man to so enrich.
Here Jesus was the Son of Man divine,3
The instituter of the Sabbath day.
He could have said “The Sabbath day is Mine,”
But taught them out of patient love the way.
Man wasn’t made to keep the Sabbath pure;
It’s made for man so he may rest assure.
8-4-15 Gone
child-guns
1 To the chief Musician upon Sheminith, A Psalm of David.
Help, LORD; for the godly man ceaseth;
for the faithful fail from among the children of men.
2 They speak vanity every one with his neighbour:
with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.
Psalm 12:1-2 KJV
~~~~~~~~~~~

The days of righteous men are all but gone,

For evil spreads the earth just like a plague.

It’s not that saints are hiding and withdrawn,

There’s just so few they seem both hushed and vague.

The faithful few are buried by the mob:

The carnel, unregenerate and vile,

Who smile at you in passing at your job,

Then stab you in the back with that same smile.

These are the days the wicked strut about;

They’re killing unborn babies just to sell.

They stand upon a rainbow box and shout,

And roam the streets like racist mobs from hell.

O Help us, Lord! The faithful fall away!

There’s very little hope for us today!

7-7-15 Thirst

desert

A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah:

O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee:

my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee

in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is

Psalm 63:1 KJV

~~~~~~~~~~~
If you would seek the presence of the Lord,
You must be thirsty like a desert man,
Bereft and wandering, an empty gourd,
A single minded need without a plan.
When you awake, have God be your first thought,
So hungry He consumes you heart and soul
Until your neck is thin, your stomach taut,
Your tongue so thick with thirst and black as coal.
You cannot find the Lord while on your duff;
You must engage the world, but be aware:
When He is all you need, then sure enough,
You’ll find Him all around; He’s everywhere.
The intellect itself cannot find God;
You search with your whole life without facade.
6-12-15 Blessed Be He
Hands rise up in prayer
Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the LORD:
we have blessed you out of the house of the LORD.
Psalm 118:26 KJV
~~~~~~~~~~~

Had Jesus lived and taught when David ruled,

The King would bless Him from the temple grounds.

But Christ came when the Priests their hearts were cooled,

And all He heard from them were angry sounds.

But we disciples of the risen Lord

Sing out “Hosanna!” with a single voice.

We worship Jesus whom we’ve long adored;

With blessings loud and strong we do rejoice!

In adoration from a faith full house,

Accept the Savior’s presence in your life.

The temple of your heart and mind espouse

The High Priest Christ whose perfect love is rife.

O blessed be the One who conquered death!

We live for Him and praise Him with each breath!
