7-11-14 Dirge #19: Those Holding to the Form of Godliness but Denying its Power

Hypocrite

“Do as I say, just don’t do as I do,” said the mom to her daughter Monday;

Sunday School class that she taught was one thing, but in real life was all so cliché.

Beware, you are fake, like a clam claims it’s steak!

You can’t have it both ways; you will lose if you play.

Living lies makes you less than a snake!

“I’m a good Cath’lic, I go to that church,” said the thief to his partner in crime;

He went to confession and told all his sins once a week when he could spare the time.

Beware, hypocrite, your old halo can’t fit!

You claim you’re Christ’s guy, but you steal and then lie.

Unrepentant and vile, now admit!

“All pornography’s sinful, it will send you to Hell!” cried the pastor from his lofty perch.

But soon after he died his computer’s hard drive revealed smut he had hidden at church.

Go away, you deceiver, you’re no Spirit receiver!

You were right about Hell, that is where you’ll soon dwell;

There’s a difference between words and believer!

Now’s the time to get honest, for God can’t abide sin; you can fool the whole world but not Him.

Ask for help earnestly with a true broken heart; He’ll forgive you and brighten what’s dim.

Don’t pretend to be lowly; all you are is unholy.

You can still be forgiven; just be honest and driven.

2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, proud,

blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,

3 unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers, without self control,

brutal, without love for what is good,

4 traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasures

rather than lovers of God,

5 holding to the form of godliness but denying its power.

Avoid these people!”

7-7-14 Dirge #18 – Lovers of Pleasure Rather Than Lovers of God

lover of pleasure

“My neighbor’s girl is so hot that it hurts!” drooled the man to his friend in the yard;

She was fifteen but he wanted her bad and he’d have her while leaving her scarred.

Beware of your lust, she’s a child with her trust!

You have already sinned, but you had better rescind;

Turn to God right away or you’re dust!

“Football’s my life; I just live for the game!” yelled the man at his friends in the room.

He painted his body and was flaunting it now; he had willed this be done for his tomb.

“Beware, sporting fan, you’re ignoring God’s plan!

Idol worship is wrong and you drag it along;

Be this ardent for Christ if you can!

“I’ve played this game for three days in a row!” the boy boasted to all who could hear.

He was foul and unwashed and just lived in his room; the real world had long disappeared.

Beware, pleasure slut, you are stuck in a rut!

You’re life’s slipping away; you’ve forgotten the Way;

Hell’s just waiting, and you’re making the cut!

Joy and contentment are found in the Lord; all the others are toys of the damned.

Only in Jesus will you find your bliss; cry His name now or always be scammed.

We are all hopeless sinners, but in Christ we are winners!

Feel the Spirit’s conviction and be saved from addiction!

7-1-14 Dirge #16: The Reckless

drunk-driving-high-driving-marijuana

“I know it’s risky, but man it looks fun!” said the young man to all his friends;

He climbed to the top of the tower and danced, ’til he slipped and fell down to his end.

Beware, careless lad, you have died for a fad!

You wasted your life, caused your family great strife,

And destroyed all the futures you had!

“Give me that spice, I’ll just hit it twice,” drawled the woman at the steering wheel,

She then got so high she forgot where she was, and they crashed and died buried in steel.

Beware, reckless fool, headstrong like a mule!

You sure did get higher, now your feet’s in the fire;

What you did was thoughtless and cruel!

“How dare they insult me; let’s go forth to war!” cried the King to the room full of men;

Impulsive and rash, so now thousands were killed; leaders do it again and again.

Go away, you are rash, now two countries are ash!

You have got Hell to pay, and there you will stay

With the others whose teeth grind and gnash!

Head to the cross before it’s too late, lay your burdens at Christ’s perfect feet.

If you seek adventure there’s no better venture than sharing the gospel complete.

There is so much to do for your Saviour it’s true.

Please be careful and wise, let the Spirit advise!

6-28-14 Dirge #15: Traitors

traitor

“You will find Jesus in Gethsemane,” Judas hissed to those who’d have Christ dead;

The Son of Destruction had just sealed his fate with a traitorous mark on his head.

Beware, hellish snake, your soul is at stake!

Betray not your friends, with their trust you depend.

If you turn on them, hearts will soon break!

“I have a secret I’ll share with you now,” the girl whispered in your rival’s ear;

She stabbed your back with malicious intent, this good friend that you once held so dear.

Beware, for a reason you’ll soon commit treason!

A secret entrusted should be kept and not busted.

Give it up and get Hell for all seasons!

“They hide their money in that wooden box,” shared the worker to his thieving friend;

For this information his boss was soon robbed; Heaven’s judgment will thus be his end.

Go away, sinful traitor, you sneaky trust hater!

Your treacherous deeds fulfils Satan’s needs.

Your reward will come sooner or later!

Forgiveness can come if your heart is sincere, so repent and give Jesus your all.

He’ll never betray you, be certain of that; He can turn you from Saul to like Paul.

Give God your heart; He will never depart.

Be loyal and true; put your trust in Christ, too!

6-19-14 Dirge #12: Those With No Self Control

no self control

“I can’t believe that I ate the whole thing!” cried the man with his hand to his gut.

Gluttonous living is par for the course; everything in excess turns to smut.

Beware living large, your sin will enlarge!

You’ve no self control, you endanger your soul;

Soon old Satan will come and take charge!

“Sometimes my poor hand has a mind of its own,” said the shoplifting girl to her friend.

Greed and desire takes control of the will leaving heartache alone in the end.

Beware, needy slave, you constantly crave!

You have lost your free will and dare call it a thrill;

It will lead you to Hell from the grave!

“I started drinking when I was fifteen,” slurred the man with a bottle of rum.

Addiction destroys both the body and soul and transforms your whole spirit to scum.

Go away, helpless sot, and get help as you ought!

You will soon be unable to push back from the table;

You are bound to lose more than you thought!

Jesus is waiting for your trembling hand to reach out and believe He’s God’s Son.

When you surrender your life to the Lord then the healing you so need has begun.

There is strength in Christ’s love and our Father above;

You’ll regain self control when you’re saved and made whole.

6-12-14 Dirge #10 – The Irreconcilable

Irreconcilable

“I cannot trust you, you once did me wrong,” said the wife to her husband with ire;

She held on to all the mistakes that he’d made and wouldn’t let past faults expire.

Beware, unforgiving, you vex all that’s living!

You’re jury and judge, always holding a grudge.

In the end you will get what you’re giving!

“Forget our agreement, I just changed my mind,” drawled the fickle young man to his boss;

He couldn’t see working so hard for his pay and he couldn’t care less for the loss.

Beware, irreconcilable, you’re so unreliable!

A covenant breaker, you’ll soon meet your Maker.

Your excuses are unjustifiable!

“I’ve a chip on my shoulder, so don’t make me mad!” warned the man to his bride-to-be;

If you cross his path he’ll hate you to death, and in fact that’s meant literally.

Go away, you’re a danger, you act like a stranger!

You lack all contentment, so full of resentment,

There’s no peace with a dog in the manger!

If you want in Heaven you’ve got to forgive, so let go and just give all to God.

Surrender your anger, remember His Grace; with His Love you will always be awed.

Grace will soften your heart, it will make hate depart.

Practice with gratitude, it will alter your attitude!

5-31-14 Dirge #6: Disobedience To Parents

rebellious

“You can’t tell me what to do!” the angry girl said to her mother;

she slammed the door in her mom’s sad face and left in the car with some other.

Beware, noxious teen, you’re foolish and willful and wild!

If you lay ’round and curse, you’ll make matters much worse

for it’s a sin to get parents riled!

“I won’t go to school! It’s stupid and lame!” said the young man to his worried father;

he’d rather hang out and get drunk with his friends than listen to dad and be bothered.

Beware, gluttonous boy, you’ll not always have fun!

You’ll turn out a fool if you don’t go to school,

and one day have your own foolish son!

Honor your parents that your days may be long was the first commandment with a pledge;

they want you to follow the ways of the Lord, not to end up on someone’s knife edge.

Obey the advice of your mom and your dad

or be subject to some hell to go through;

choose respect over some passing fad.

Your folks try to train you up as a child in the way that is righteous and true.

You shouldn’t repay them with insolence; they’re doing the best they can do.

Listen to your parent so your life won’t be errant.

Hearken to your parent’s word, don’t grow up evil and absurd.
