7-8-14 All (a Sonnet)

surrender

Consider all the things you now possess,

The creature comforts, all you hold most dear,

Including friends so close that you profess

And fam’ly most of all that you revere.

Now choose the thing or person in your heart

That you love more and cherish most of all,

And ask yourself sincere if this you’d part

If God would have you yield and heed His call.

You must be willing to concede today

Your fortune, friends and all your loved ones here,

To do the will of God without delay

And even life itself to thus adhere.

He calls you to surrender to His will,

And all you ask of Him He will fulfill.

7-4-14 Dirge #17: The Conceited

Woman Blowing Herself a Kiss in the Mirror

“I’m just so funny I can’t stand myself!” quipped the puffed up young man to his pal;

He was the wittiest guy that he knew, and he thought he was great for morale.

Beware, vain and glorious, you’ll soon be notorious!

Inflate your own ego and lose your amigo.

The conceited won’t be so victorious!

“We are Americans, don’t mess with us!” bragged the tourists to their poor cab driver;

They had no clue they were hated abroad because of such stupid behavior.

Beware, you that rant, you’re so arrogant!

You think you’re so special, you’re eager to wrestle;

Satan uses you, for Jesus can’t!

“I have forgotten more than you could know,” crowed the old man to his young grandson.

He rested on all the things he had learned, forgetting all the dumb things he had done.

Go away and beware, you so full of hot air!

All that ego and pride; once in Hell you can’t hide.

Keep it up and you’ll know deep despair!

If you would hope to be saved in the end, you had better be saved here and now.

Your only hope is to come to the cross and surrender to Christ with a vow.

Bring all your conceit and just lay at His feet.

You are nothing at all – without Jesus you fall.

2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, proud,

blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,

3 unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers, without self control,

brutal, without love for what is good,

4 traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasures

rather than lovers of God,

5 holding to the form of godliness but denying its power.

Avoid these people!”

6-25-14 Dirge #14: Those Without Love for What is Good

hater

“If it bleeds then it leads, that’s the name of the game!” yelled the editor to the new hire;

There is no room on the TV for nice, it is not even worth to acquire.

Beware as you should, without love for what’s good!

You corrupt and condemn, to you evil’s a gem.

One day you’d want to pray if you could!

“Look at that girl, is she better than us?” asked the young woman to her best friend;

She just can’t stand that the girl is upright, she keeps thinking of words to offend.

Beware, heartless witch, your black spirit’s not rich!

You’d rake over the coals all the innocent souls.

In Hell’s realm you will find your own niche!

“There’s no hope so give up, the world’s doomed to explode,” said the man with a terrible scowl;

No matter the subject he turns it around and proclaims all that’s filthy and foul.

Go away with your cloud, your kind here’s not allowed!

Your negative vibe is depressing the tribe;

There’s no love in your doom-laden shroud!

Joy is the answer to clean out the heart, and it comes from surrender to God.

Admit you’re a sinner and that Christ is your Lord, and let love leave you breathless and awed.

Say goodbye to your hate or it might be too late.

Embrace all that is good and you’ll be understood!

6-7-14 Promptings (a Sonnet)

HolySpiritFireHeart

Oh, can you feel the Holy Spirit’s call

Now filling up your chest with each heartbeat?

He bids you come to Jesus with your all;

Submit yourself to Christ, become complete.

Say, can you hear the Spirit speak to you,

A gentle whisper piercing ev’ry sound?

His tender prodding never ceases to

Remind you of God’s love that’s so profound.

Look, can you see the Spirit ev’rywhere

Inviting you to find the Saviour’s face?

When fin’lly your eyes meet His knowing stare

The world will fall away but not God’s Grace.

The Holy Spirit’s urging you right now.

Submit your life to Christ; He’ll show you how.
