2-26-16 Seeking Riches

greed

But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

1 Timothy 6:9 KJV

           ~~~~~~~~~~~
Too much can not be said about the sin
Of seeking to be rich above all else,
For when the lust for gold within begin,
The love of God and Christ most surely melts.
A strong foundation builds a sturdy house,
So let the Rock of Ages cleft for you,
But if you build on greed you then espouse
The love for worldly things you should eschew.
A foolish man will do some hurtful things
In order to obtain abundant wealth.
It’s hard to stem the selfishness this brings
And easy to forget supernal health.
           Put all your faith in Heaven’s Kingdom now
           Don’t let the love of riches strike your brow.
           ~~~~~~~~~~~

REMEMBER: Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. (Matthew 6:19-21 KJV)

11-9-15 The Peace of Jesus

peace in hand

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

John 14:27 KJV

~~~~~~~~~~~
The peace that Christ bestowed unto His friends,
Before He walked the path that lead to death,
And sanctified as soon His blood would cleanse,
Could not be given by some worldly breath.
The moment you accepted Christ as Lord,
The Spirit of His peace did rest in you,
And though the beasts of chaos smashed and roared,
Don’t be afraid, His peace has seen you through.
The peace of Jesus calms the stormy sea,
It comforts men upon the battle field,
Descending on those struggling to be free,
And in your final moments is revealed.
Let not your heart be troubled – here is peace:
To know the love of Christ will never cease.
9-26-15 The Final Authority
gavel
For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; he will save us.
Isaiah 33:22 KJV
~~~~~~~~~~~

While here you should obey the worldly laws,

For here you lay upon your earthly bed,

But if they clash with Spirit give them pause,

For Christ is your authority and head.

The laws that Jesus gives are Spirit born,

Yet they impact each aspect of your life.

He is your Lord and King when you’re reborn;

He is your final judge through stress and strife.

When you obey God’s laws instead of man’s,

You might incur the wrath of earthly judge,

But prison may be part of God’s own plans,

So always listen to the Spirit’s nudge.

The Lord will save your soul – man’s laws cannot.

You’ll still be His when all that’s mortal rots.

4-15-15 Abstain

alley of temptation

Once newly into Christ you don’t belong,

For Christ is into you: Home isn’t here,

And where you go the light will shine so strong

A pilgrim’s path shall form to drive sin clear.

Abstain from fleshy lusts, which fight the soul,

For they can drive a wedge ‘tween God and you;

They turn your vision from its Holy goal

And cause a stumbled fall to tarry, too.

The worldly world of lust is sensual,

Tempts sight and touch and sound and taste and smell.

It bids you come and join the festival,

Then pins you to the wall of death and hell.

Abstain from lust, my sister newly saved

You have a choice: be free or be enslaved.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims,
abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
1 Peter 2:11 KJV
10-12-14 On Understanding
Christ Our Advocate
God’s advocate for us is not elite;
His hands have gotten callused with hard work.
He’s one of us, has known pain and defeat;
Has not been raised apart with favored perk.
Our Savior knows just what we’re going through;
He understands too well temptation’s lure.
But even though he’s lived our point of view,
This man we know as Jesus remains pure.
He shows us it is possible to live
Amid the draw of sin, this worldly pull,
And though we stoop and fall He will forgive,
Regardless of our state His love is full.
Christ intercedes for us to God; He knows
Just what it’s like to live the status quo.
~~~~~~~~~~~

For we have not an high priest which cannot

be touched with the feeling of our infirmities;

 but was in all points tempted like as we are,

yet without sin.

Hebrews 4:15 KJV

10-1-14 Walking in Uprightness

Wealth

Tis better to be poor in worldly sense,

Not worried for his earthly furnishings.

Though poor, he is not sitting on the fence

Obsessed about the status that wealth brings.

A poor man tries to keep a simple vow,

And sometimes failing, works to make it right.

A money hungry man will scarce allow

His word to be his bond and live forthright.

The poor have conscience void of hidden plan,

And keeps a simple life with love for God.

The rich wants more than when they first began,

And keeps it complicated as a fraud.

A poor man lets the Saviour rule his life

Instead of mortal things and all its strife.

~~~~~
Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness,
than he that is perverse in his ways,
though he be rich.
Proverbs 28:6 KJV
8-27-14 Keeping It Real
the cross
It’s tempting to show just how much you know
About the world and all such earthly things,
But this you know is only so much show
Compared to Jesus Christ, the King of Kings.
When you relate the gospel keep it pure
As Christ’s salvation to the souls of men:
Atonement through His blood you can be sure,
And gave His life for all your sins, amen.
So concentrate on Jesus, Son of God;
Don’t let your worldly knowledge make you stray.
This moment may be all you have to laud
The sacrifice He made for them that day.
            Evangelize to all about the cross;
            Temporal education’s mostly dross.
For I determined not to know any thing among you,
save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
1 Corinthians 2:2 KJV
