1-16-16 Beware the Man

angry

3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words,even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; 4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, 5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

1 Timothy 6:3-5 KJV

~~~~~~~~~~~
Beware the man who quarrels with the Word,
Who picks at tiny things and contradicts,
Who makes a show to have his feelings stirred,
Displaying traits the Spirit sure convicts.
He thinks that if you claim it, it is yours,
Especially the things that money buys;
He’ll tell a dirty joke beyond church doors
And never seems to look you in the eyes.
Stay far away as possible, my friend,
For all your wholesome words fall on deaf ears.
Associate with him to no good end;
He is a scourge among his friends and peers.
If Jesus isn’t in his repertoire,
The only thing to say is au revoir.
REMEMBER: Pray for the contentious, but avoid them whenever possible.
11-27-15 Return Unto Your Rest
under the stars
Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the LORD hath dealt bountifully with thee.
Psalm 116:7 KJV
~~~~~~~~~~~

When all the work and play of day is done,

The dishes washed, the children laid in bed,

Reflect upon the struggles and the fun,

The things you didn’t do or done instead,

Return unto your rest, my weary soul:

The Lord has dealt so bountifully with you.

His grace has carried you from role to role,

His love a shining light the whole day through.

Despite your tribulation He’s been here

Within the very center of your heart.

You’ll never be alone, no need to fear;

Relax, my soul: the Savior won’t depart.

Tomorrow comes too soon; for now just rest.

The stars are bright tonight and you are blessed.

11-23-15 On Spiritual Maturity

baby eating meat

I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

John 16:12 KJV

~~~~~~~~~~~
When you were born you could not handle meat:
You had no teeth to chew, your stomach frail.
You had to start with milk, so warm and sweet,
And then work up to solid food in scale.
Don’t take up calculus if you can’t count,
Don’t write a book if you can’t spot a noun.
The heavy doctrine truths aren’t tantamount
To learning how your sins can drag you down.
If Jesus told you things you could not bear
Your soul would be too feeble to digest.
The Holy Ghost guides teachers to prepare
The food of Spirit that you can ingest.
Don’t be afraid to ask, but don’t forget,
The Savior may tell you “Not now; not yet.”
111015 Well Done!
icanonlyimagine
His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
Matthew 25:21 KJV
~~~~~~~~~~~

When we have fin’lly crossed the finish line,

When we at last this mortal race has run,

No greater words could meet us then so fine

Than when we see the Lord and hear “Well done!”

Good servants have the grace of God within,

The faithful few know Jesus Christ, God’s Son.

The few things we are faithful to therein

Will be revealed when Jesus says “Well done!”

Then though the things we rule is God’s reward,

And though eternity has long begun,

Though we’ve embraced the full joy of the Lord,

No sweeter words will we hear but “Well done!”

When we take our last breath the race is won;

The Lord will meet us first and say “Well done!”

10-3-15 Walk the Walk

being a christian

And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

Luke 6:46 KJV

~~~~~~~~~~~
Are you a follower by word or deed?
It matters when you reach the other side.
Most anyone can memorize a creed;
The words take on new meaning when applied.
What good are all the scriptures if ignored?
I tell you there are some who ‘know’ the word,
But when it comes to Jesus as their Lord,
They don’t know how to act and not be heard.
If you believe in Jesus, walk the walk;
A fruit is known by taste and not just form.
A plastic bird is nothing more than schlock;
An eagle rides the clouds above a storm.
He won’t know who you are when you cry ‘Lord’
If you don’t do His will. You’ll be ignored.
9-30-15 What He Has Done
gods touch
Sing unto the LORD; for he hath done excellent things: this is known in all the earth.
Isaiah 12:5 KJV
~~~~~~~~~~~

Behold the many things the Lord has done:

He made the universe and all within;

He came to earth the essence of the Son;

He’s offered us salvation from our sin;

He had the prophets write His holy word;

He gave us with His love such blessed grace;

He promised us He’d come back undeterred;

He’s gifted us the Spirit to embrace;

He loves us more than we will ever know;

He formed us in His image from the start;

He carries us with Him and won’t let go;

He’s conquered death and hell; He’s done His part.

The things the Lord has done are excellent!

The earth and all that’s in it give assent!

9-4-15 Render

dollar

14 And when they were come, they say unto him, Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

15 Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why tempt ye me? bring me a penny, that I may see it.

16 And they brought it. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? And they said unto him, Caesar’s.

17 And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s. And they marveled at him.

Mark 12:14-17 KJV

~~~~~~~~~~~
We have an obligation to the world
To give unto the rulers what is theirs.
Whatever flag above us is unfurled,
Obey that government; give them their shares.
We can’t forsake this world while we are here,
And still employ the money of the land.
Rebel and soon officials will appear
Reminding us the debt we owe at hand.
So render unto Caesar what is his,
And render unto God what’s His as well.
If you think taxes are too high as is,
Then use the laws to change it where you dwell.
No matter what the levy is, just pay,
And give your heart to Christ without delay.
